Catch the tram into the heart of Melbourne’s shopping hub, Bourke Street Mall. Linking Swanston and Elizabeth streets, the mall is open only to trams and foot-traffic and is where you will find big-name brands and flagship stores like Zara, Sportsgirl, Mimco, David Jones and Myer.
Or walk across the bridge to DFO South Wharf, it’s close enough that you can pop back to the hotel at any point to drop off those heavy shopping bags. If finer dining is to your taste, head to the Belgium Beer Cafe for mussels with chips, plus steaks, in a brasserie with art nouveau touches or on a convivial terrace.
You’ll need beer
Organising the guys can be a bit of a hassle, so let someone else do it for you. The Melbourne Urban Beer Odyssey takes you around Melbourne’s most awarded and innovative urban breweries and cider bars where old-world styles and new world inspiration collide to create a drinkers heaven. The team will introduce you to chocolate, vanilla, coffee, toffee and bacon flavoured beer, refreshing summer ales, crisp sessionable lagers, fruit infused barrel aged ales, artisan ciders and experimental single batch brews.
You’ll need fun
Go on the Melbourne Sports Lovers Tour which takes you behind the scenes of the venues that host Australia’s favourite sporting events. Visit Flemington Race Course, home of the Melbourne Cup. Drive through the Commonwealth Games Athletes Village and around Albert Park, on the Melbourne F1 Grand Prix Circuit. Choose to tour behind the scenes of the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Rod Laver Arena, or The National Sports Museum.
