Your next family getaway is a lot closer than you think. It’s time to #melbourneagain these school holidays, so load up the gang and head to the big city for your next adventure.

Imaginaria

A new form of immersive play for all ages has arrived in Melbourne. Within this hour long walk-through, Imaginaria is where imagination and technology collide to create a visually stunning audio-visual play experience from the future.  Treat it as part game, gallery and journey as you meander through shimmering light sculptures and vast architectural inflatables before entering the interactive cave or multi-dimensional light maze. Step inside a giant infinity bubble before travelling to a cosmic abyss as you pass through a black hole hovering in space.

The team at Imaginaria are here to keep you safe. It’s for that reason a number of safety measures like controlled capacity, staggered entry, mandatory masks,  hand sanitation stations, frequent deep cleans and temperature checks to ensure guests have a safe (as well as fun) experience.

Imaginaria runs until January 31 at the District Docklands (find it beneath the Melbourne Star).

Sea Life Melbourne

Discover an amazing underwater world at Sea Life Melbourne.

Descend into the mysteriously fascinating world of jellyfish as you explore Ocean Invaders, an educational and sensory-thrilling zone pulsing with multiple species of glowing jellyfish. The journey takes you through to the Jelly Lab where you can discover fun facts about the jellyfish lifecycle and take a peek behind the scenes as Sea Life staff tend to the blooms of these graceful sea creatures.

The all-new Interactive Wonder Room is an immersive, digital installation inspired by underwater moment. Colour in your own jellyfish on one of the interactive screens then watch it float – which is totally a bit of fun!

And, don’t forget to stop by the penguin enclosure to meet the newest members of the Sea Life family, baby Gentoo penguins. The cheeky Gentoo penguins welcomed several fluffy chicks in late-November and can be found under the supervision of their doting parents.

Alice in Wonderland

For the theatre-bugs in the family, join Alice on her journey through Wonderland and experience an adventure like no other at Melbourne’s Athenaeum Theatre. Lewis Carroll’s story is cleverly lifted from the page and brought to life in a bright performance with colourful costumes, interactive games and catchy songs. Take the whole family on a stimulating adventure and take a trip to Wonderland with Alice.

Alice in Wonderland runs 5 to 23 January at Athenaeum Theatre.

Melbourne Zoo

Step back in time and explore Melbourne Zoo’s Dino Lab. The giant animatronic dinosaurs can be found roaming the open spaces of the Zoo – so, be sure to watch your back!

Dino lovers can become junior palaeontologists at the Dino Dig and dote over the cute baby dinosaurs that now call the Zoo home. The Dino Keepers (most commonly known as Zoo Keepers) share stories of the extinction of these prehistoric friends and the importance of protecting our existing wildlife, many of which you’ll discover as you wander through the Gorilla Rainforest or the Trail of the Elephants, home to just some of the endangered species of today.
